Week 1 - About me

Hello fellow DECO3850-ers!! My name is Michelle and I am in my third year of pursuing a Bachelor of Information Technology with a focus in User Experience Design.

I think I am a very organised and hardworking person. I have come to appreciate a good challenge and, as such, am always willing to put in the hard yards to see my work (and my team's!!) come to life.

I don't really know what to expect from the course as I have heard so much about it. In fact, I think one thing I have learnt in DECO3850 so far is not to expect anything. I think preconceived expectations can limit the creativity, skills and design prospects that this course facilitates and, as I am really hoping for a challenge, I have no expectations. I do, however, want to expand my skillset - especially in more physical facets (woodwork, laser cutting, metalwork etc). I want to push myself to develop something innovative and novel. I want to improve my design outlook - to reimagine the world around me so as to find ways to improve it.

Hopefully DECO3850 can help me achieve that.

WEEK1_ Introduction

Jenny Li - Tue 25 February 2020, 7:50 pm

Hey there. My name is Jenny and I'm from Interactive Design.

So far, all I know about this course is that we need to develop a physically intelligent/smart/electronic object which can be fun to interact with and closely connect with the human being.

I am confident about the life cycle of the design process which includes idea generation, research, prototype testing, usability test... BUT I have nearly ZERO knowledge about programming related to hardware. And that's what I need to learn and discover.

W1 - Idea Generation

Contact

In the contact this week, we used cards in class to generate ideas. It is out of the box and inspiring.

According to the cards our group picked, we are designing to shape using smell in nightclub with the quality of nomadic. In this sentence, smell can be conceived as a method of shaping. Nomadic is considered as a group of people who travel frequently. My idea for this circumstance is that before going to an unfamiliar nightclub, people who are new in this city may want to choose which nighclub to go. They can choose by selecting the smell of pre-drink they like most, and it leads to a particular nightclub.

W1 - Overview of course

Autumn Li - Tue 25 February 2020, 7:40 pm

Introduction

My name is Autumn. I am a MID student. I love outdoor sports and recently I had great interests in scuba diving. The sense of achievement that I can get from the courses is that we can create and build special experience for people. It can be inspiring, motivating, relieving and unforgettable. As time pass by, many things will fade away from people's memories, but experience and feelings last long. I'm enthusiastic about creating it.

Expectations

What I'm looking forward to learning from this course is to build things with newly gained skills like using laser cutter and band saw and combine technology with it. Human beings are naturally close to tangible physical things than electronic things, so I'm expecting our final product would be cool and influential.

Hello everyone!

About me

My name is Nan Xiao, studying the interaction design. I have studied for one year. I have understood the basic design thinking and process of implementing one concept. Meanwhile, I have been taught how to code a simple program by the computer language, such as python. However, I am good at designing rather than programming. I hope I can practise my ability of programming this semester and improve my ideas through the chance provided by this course.

About expectations

Although I attended the first content remotely, I understood what the expectation of this course is and what I should expect for this course in general. This course combines the knowledge from the textbook and operational ability to implement a concept, which is the most attractive part of the course for me. I can test my ability of research, design, handwork, and coding. I am also hoping that I can achieve an excellent exhibition of our ideas because I never exhibited my design with physical interactions before. According to the exhibition, I can acquire a direct response from audiences in order to evaluate whether the design is successful or not.

I am so excited that I would meet many kind friends in this course if I come back to campus.

Hello everyone, welcome to my blog. I am Nian Liu. I am in my second semester 1 of Master of Interaction Design (ID). I am hoping to learn more ideation and get more inspiration for our products. And I eager to have more experience of physical and technological operational ability as well as programming skills.

I am organized and willing to spend my time and effort on my team. I believe that I can hang on for one more second. Hope to see you guys and nice to meet you all.

Introduction

Seamus Nash - Tue 25 February 2020, 2:11 pm

I am in my final semester of BInfTech(Software Design). I am hoping to learn more about more about physical computing and use the skills I have learnt thus far to produce something very interesting and exciting for other user's to interact with.

I am a team player who will do any task assigned to me to the best of my ability. I am also very organised, so I won't have any tasks late or to a somewhat low standard.

I'm very keen to meet everyone and see what we all produce at the end of the semester

Welcome to my Blog

Hello...

I'm in my final semester of BChemical Engineering and BInfoTech. I am quite interested in automation and AI technology and I hope to develop and learn more about those technology in this course and outside.

I am quite an organised person and excellent team player and hope to use my skills and expertise to develop and build a playful physical interaction using technology.

Hopefully, I get to meet most of you throughout the semester if not welcome to my blog and you will follow my journey through the course!

Introduction - Aizel Redulla

Aizel Redulla - Tue 25 February 2020, 12:32 pm

I'm in my final year of a BInfoTech(UXDes) and BArts(Linguistics) program and I hope to hone my skills in development both with producing something physical and improving my skills with programming/web design. In past projects I've contributed best in the fields of user research and evaluation.

I am pretty organised, which lends to my skills in project management and planning. If I can help it, I schedule my workload so I can avoid doing all-nighters because I love sleep. Nice to meet you all!
